SMS Troubleshooting Guide:
1. BlackBook Setup Guide
The BlackBook Setup Guide is available here. Each and every step must be followed to setup your phone to run the app.
2. Disable other 3rd party SMS apps
If you’re using any other 3rd party SMS apps, remove, or disable them while testing to rule them out as the cause of your problem.
3. Ensure contact is actually imported into BlackBook
Make sure you’ve imported the contact into the BlackBook app. The Import option is found in the BlackBook menu.
4. Check the phone number for the contact is the proper format.
The phone number format entered in for your BlackBook contact must be identical to the phone number format that your phone receives. This mostly affects International phone numbers (outside Canada, and the USA).
Here are some examples for the United Kingdom: (Note: Spaces have been added for this example, and aren’t needed in the app)
The proper format is: +44 5555 555 555
Wrong: +44 05555 555 555
Wrong: +44 (0)5555 555 555
Number formats can vary slightly in other countries, but if you follow the above info, you should be able to get BlackBook working properly.
5. Disable SMS Workaround
If you’re still not receiving SMS in BlackBook, try disabling all of the Firewall settings which were initially changed when you followed the BlackBook Setup Guide.
With all the Firewall settings off, you should receive two copies of an incoming SMS. One in the regular inbox, and another in the BlackBook message logs.
6. Firewall problems?
If when you follow all the above steps, your phone continues to block all SMS from BlackBook (with the SMS Workaround setup) then it’s possible you may have an issue with the Firewall software in the phone itself. Your carrier provider can assist you in troubleshooting that.
7. Additional Troubleshooting
Certain phone providers actually send MMS messages, rather than SMS. MMS messages are NOT supported by BlackBook. You can find out more information by contacting your provider to confirm how they send and receiving messages.
